With the triple whammy of Easter plus two May bank holidays fast approaching, the UK is set to see huge spikes in traffic that will ensure that Motorway Services across the country are packed with leisure trippers, on top of the 8.5m existing visitors that already pass through every week.

However, the huge influx of people doesn’t stop there. The weather is already starting to warm up, and that means summer is only a few months away!

Last year, the first couple of weeks of the summer holidays alone saw as many as 34m individual leisure trips on the road, taken for a multitude of reasons – visits to friends and family, drives to UK staycations and transport hubs for onward travel to holidays abroad.

These are often not short journeys – 97% of respondents to our Drive Panel said that they expected to take at least one 2hr+ drive over the summer.

Such long drives, especially with children on board, mean that stops are essential. 77% of families will stop at least once during a 90 minute car journey, in order to take a washroom break, grab some food and generally get set for the onward journey.

Our 136 Motorway Services cover the country, connecting major conurbations, transport hubs and leisure destinations. They offer a wide selection of facilities to travellers, from shops such as Waitrose and WHSmith to food and drink brands including Leon, Tossed and Starbucks. Baby changing spaces offer help to those with infants, while many have outdoor spaces for drivers and passengers to stretch their legs.

A massive 72% of families on the road will stop at a Motorway Services during the summer holidays, and there’s a host of advertising opportunities to greet them. Our A3 Washroom Panels boast long dwell times, while our 1,300-strong network of 6 Sheets can achieve national broadcast cover.

For striking full-motion content, such as movie trailers, we offer our Nexus D48 screens that also offer dynamic activation capabilities which can react to factors such as traffic levels and temperature.

Motorway Services advertising is great for a broad range of product categories, especially when family audiences are going to be so prevalent. Plus, regular Motorway Services visitors are more affluent than the average family, being 84% more likely to have a household income of £100k+ per annum.

We’ve worked with a wide variety of advertisers across multiple categories, including ice cream (Walls), leisure attractions (Dover Castle) and family motoring (Vauxhall Crossland, Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Land Rover Discovery).
